The TYCA-SE Cowan Award for Excellence in the Teaching of English was established by Elizabeth Cowan in memory of her husband, Greg Cowan, who received his B.A. from the University of Washington and did graduate work in English, Linguistics, and Communications at Washington State University and the New School of Social Research. He taught English at Clark College, Forest Park Community College of New York, and Texas A&M University. In addition, he co-authored six textbooks. Professor Cowan served as Chairman of the National Junior College Committee and was an active member of NCTE and CCCC. He died in July 1979. This award carries a stipend for the honoree who has been nominated by peers and selected by the TYCA-SE state representatives.
TYCA-Southeast Cowan Award for Excellence in the Teaching of English
This award will be presented to an outstanding full-time English teacher at a two-year college in the Southeast who is a member in good standing of TYCA-Southeast.
